Expansive Territories is the theme underlying  a program of artistic research activities developed by OSSO – Associação Cultural, and coordinated by Diogo Alvim and Matilde Meireles since January 2020.

The program culminates in this publication, a small editorial project that seeks to establish relationships between different perspectives and modes of operation in artistic research, as well as between different institutions.

Four artists were invited to develop essays around this theme.

The publication was hosted as an editorial partnership by the UNESCO Chair in Arts and Culture Management, Cities and Creativity, Polytechnic Institute of Leiria.

With this publication, the IPL Chair inaugurates a line of thematic editions aimed at disseminating research and reflection produced within its foundational scope: the management of arts and culture, the intersection between urban studies and the analysis of public policies within the framework of the conditions of sustainability of cities and their communities.

These publications are developed by students from the various courses and teaching cycles and by IPL faculty, and in particular from the School of Arts and Design, the Chair’s host school, in Caldas da Rainha, integrating and stimulating collaborative training and learning processes and contributing to the professional development of students from the various artistic and cultural management courses.

These publications are also guided by the establishment of partnerships with other chairs, university institutions, associations, non-governmental organizations, foundations and organizations in the public and private sector, nationally and internationally, promoting networking, dialogue and sharing of knowledge and good practices.

The UNESCO Chair of the Polytechnic of Leiria thus aligns with the purposes of the UNITWIN network, through which UNESCO promotes the development of skills in higher education and research institutions through the exchange and sharing of knowledge in a spirit of international cooperation and solidarity.

Territórios Expansivos é o tema subjacente a um programa de atividades de investigação artística desenvolvido pela OSSO – Associação Cultural, e coordenado por Diogo Alvim e Matilde Meireles desde janeiro de 2020.

O programa culmina nesta publicação, um pequeno projecto editorial que procura estabelecer relações entre diferentes perspectivas e modos de operação em investigação artística, bem como entre diferentes instituições.

Nela participam quatro artistas que foram convidados para desenvolver ensaios à volta deste tema.

A publicação foi acolhida em parceria editorial pela Cátedra UNESCO em Gestão das Artes e da Cultura, Cidades e Criatividade do Instituto Politécnico de Leiria.

Com esta publicação, a Cátedra do IPL inaugura uma linha de edições temáticas orientadas para a divulgação de investigação e reflexão produzidas no seu âmbito fundacional: a gestão das artes e da cultura, o cruzamento entre os estudos urbanos e a análise das políticas públicas no quadro das condições de sustentabilidade das cidades e suas comunidades. 

Estas publicações são desenvolvidas por estudantes dos vários cursos e ciclos de ensino e por professores do Politécnico de Leiria, e em particular da Escola Superior de Artes e Design, a escola sede da Cátedra, nas Caldas da Rainha, integrando e estimulando processos de formação e aprendizagem colaborativa e contribuindo para o desenvolvimento profissional dos estudantes dos diversos cursos artísticos e de gestão cultural. 

Estas publicações orientam-se também pelo estabelecimento de parcerias com outras cátedras, instituições universitárias, associações, organizações não-governamentais, fundações e organizações do setor público e privado, nacional e internacional, promovendo o trabalho em rede, o diálogo e a partilha de conhecimentos e de boas práticas. 

A Cátedra UNESCO do Politécnico de Leiria alinha-se, assim, com os fins da rede UNITWIN, através da qual a UNESCO promove o desenvolvimento de competências nas instituições de ensino superior e investigação mediante o intercâmbio e a partilha do saber em prol de um espírito de cooperação e solidariedade internacional.
